Preparing your Home for Inspection

Any homeowner trying to find the value of his or her home will need a home inspection to make that valuation official. While a property inspection is meant to determine the value regardless of surface flaws, there are a few things you should do prior to your inspection in preparation to show your home at its best.

Clean House:
The easiest preparation step is to make sure that the house is cleaned both inside and out. This also includes any landscaping work around the perimeter. Make the house look good from the curbside, where a real estate inspection begins. This is where first and lasting impressions are made on the home inspector.

Make Panels Accessible:
Rearrange the furnishings to leave space around appliances, heating, ventilation, air conditioning units and electrical panels for easy access by the inspector. Have malfunctioning appliances repaired, as they will be run by inspection services to check the electrical and plumbing system of the home. If the house is unoccupied, make certain all utilities are on and working properly before the inspection.

Check On The Windows, Doors, Ect:
Check all windows and doors to make certain that they open and close well. Also, check the roof for any loose or missing shingles or tiles and any other damage. Make repairs before the inspection to avoid lowered home values.

Be Ready To Answer Questions:
Do your best to be on hand when the home inspection takes place. Making yourself available to answer questions can prevent a worst-case approach to questionable inspection areas.
