Orthotic Shoes

Visiting a podiatrist is the right step if you have been suffering from foot pain, tingling, or other foot problems. If you have a foot problem that needs correction, a podiatry specialist may recommend the use of orthotics. Orthotics are special inserts that relieve pain and pressure, correct foot deformities, and support the feet. These inserts may relieve the symptoms of the following conditions:

  • Arthritis
  • Running injuries
  • Chronic sprains
  • Sinus tarsi syndrome
  • Heel pain
  • Shin splints
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Lower calf pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Tendonitis

It is possible to purchase inexpensive orthotics, but you must try them on first. Make sure they fit properly, especially if your foot has an unusual shape. If over-the-counter products do not work, you may need custom orthotics. If you need a custom device, you will need a prescription from your foot doctor.

During your appointment at the foot clinic, the doctor will examine your foot and look for obvious signs of foot problems. If the doctor suspects a stress fracture or sprain, you may have to stay off of the foot for a few days. Once your new inserts are ready, your podiatrist will ask you to wear them regularly and report any problems with fit or comfort.
